When it comes to Zombie-based games, Zombie shooters appear to be the most popular of all. Somehow, the thrill and satisfaction of shooting or hacking the walking dead coupled with the resulting blood and gore seems to attract action-based video gamers worldwide. Indeed, Zombie shooters have become one of the top genres in the FPS and shooter game category. With the continual progress of VR as an alternate entertainment and gaming medium, zombie shooters have started becoming popular in the VR games market as well. Games like Arizona Sunshine and Propagation VR are good examples of Zombie shooters making their mark on the VR scenes. However, game developers have to continue introducing new ideas into VR gaming and coming up with unique designs that will make their games immersive and interesting to get into.

Epicenter VR is such a game. In terms of being a Zombie Shooter, the game may look kinda standard fare, but what makes the game unique is the graphics design and layout of the game. Using Voxel-based looking blocky characters and surroundings, the game projects an aura of being a Roblox game in VR. Something that is quite interesting (and even cute) for Roblox fans and players alike. Although a bit rough (at the edges) and may need a bit more tweaks, the game provides a good and immersive enough zombie-shooter Roblox experience in VR. Amusing and funny at times, the Roblox-like environment makes up for the bloody tear and gore that would result in mowing the Roblox-looking walking dead down. This actually results in something gorily cute in many ways.

The setting of the game places you as a Zombie-Apocalypse survivor on an island city. Based in a police station with other hard-core survivors, you are tasked with completing objectives and missions necessary for you and those who are still alive to be able to get off the island and survive. You start by loading up on weapons, ammo, and gear (just like in other FPS adventure games). You will also need to carry a tablet which would be your source of instructions and objectives to complete. Once ready, you exit the station and head to the city, port, and other important locations to complete your missions. Whether you have to retrieve something (or someone), you will have to come face-to-face with the blocky undead and deal with them.

Without giving much in the way of spoilers, it would be wise to note that the walking dead are afraid of light. Having a flashlight and sticking by street lamps is a must in the game. Shining a light on them will usually have them running for cover which allows you the opportunity to gun them down. Blowing up or de-blocking them gives a kind of Roblox-like gore that's halfway between cartoony and gory as blood really splatters out. Likewise, going into face-to-face hacking mode increases the cartoon-based gore level. Regardless, comparing the game's gore to the other VR Zombie games is still a far cry from the usual standard gore fare.

One thing that seems to negatively stand out in the game is the lighting. It's a bit too dark. Granting, most of the missions take place at night, dusk, or dawn, the use of a flashlight grows more of a necessity as one progresses forward in the game. Regardless, it would have been nice if one could see a little bit more in the dark as our eyes normally do when adjusting to it. Environment-wise, everyone and everything screams Roblox, the people, the weapons, the things, and the walking dead. Running around gives you the amusing tap tap tap just like in a Roblox game and those faces... a Roblox experience in VR looks really cool.

In closing, Epicenter VR is a must-play if you are into Roblox FPS. For those who however still find it difficult to distinguish Roblox from Minecraft but like to shoot zombies, the game will surely provide you with hours on end of immersive fun. Yes, the game will definitely need more improvement in its current state but regardless, still delivers a really fun experience in a blocky VR game.
